Unexamined Male Privilege in the Atheist Movement (in Three Parts)

Here are three links to a recent situation involving sexism and unexamined male privilege in the atheist movement:
These blog articles are on my other blog ("Philosophical Penguins") that deals with "Philosophy, free/open-source software, atheism, sexuality, and a lot more."

I created the other blog so I could learn more about WordPress using their free hosted service before migrating my Unitarian Universalist congregation's web site from Movable Type to WordPress.

Looks like Richard Dawkins went and put his foot in it again on this issue in this comment that he posted to his (former?) pal P. Z. Myers' blog post about this matter. . .

Most hilariously this P. Z. Myers blog post ranks #2 in a Google search for -

Richard Dawkins makes an ass of himself

Robin - there are a significant number of persons (male and female) in the atheist movement who just don't understand the significance of the elevator incident that Rebecca Watson described.

But there is also an opportunity for to learning here.

Steve. . .

Richard Dawkins' "rant" against Rebecca went well beyond a simple failure to understand the significance of the elevator incident that Rebecca Watson described. Forgive me for saying that you remind me of former MFC director Rev. Diane Miller who characterized Rev. Ray Drennan's intolerant and abusive attack on me as a failure to understand me. . .

I think that you are Denying, Ignoring and most certainly Minimizing the *significance* of Richard Dawkins' sarcastic dismissive rant which I will reproduce below so that you and others can enter into a free and responsible search for its truth and meaning.

Even knowing what a *dick* Richard Dawkins can be in his anti-religious rants I thought that the following was probably written buy someone who was impersonating Richard Dawkins but P. Z. Myers has confirmed that it was Dawkins. This is one instance where I agree with most of what P. Z. Myers has said -

Dear Muslima

Stop whining, will you. Yes, yes, I know you had your genitals mutilated with a razor blade, and . . . yawn . . . don't tell me yet again, I know you aren't allowed to drive a car, and you can't leave the house without a male relative, and your husband is allowed to beat you, and you'll be stoned to death if you commit adultery. But stop whining, will you. Think of the suffering your poor American sisters have to put up with.

Only this week I heard of one, she calls herself Skep"chick", and do you know what happened to her? A man in a hotel elevator invited her back to his room for coffee. I am not exaggerating. He really did. He invited her back to his room for coffee. Of course she said no, and of course he didn't lay a finger on her, but even so . . .

And you, Muslima, think you have misogyny to complain about! For goodness sake grow up, or at least grow a thicker skin.

Richard

Needless to say the above ass*ertion proves beyond any reasonable doubt that Richard Dawkins is a Skep*Dick. . . :-)
